The town of Ballarat was born out of the frantic days of the gold rush. This town has made its mark in Victoria’s history from being home to one of the greatest dramas in Australian history – The Eureka Stockade.
It is also home to the delightful Sovereign Hill, a faithful and fascinating re-creation of an old gold mining town of the 1850’s.
The Goldfield region of Victoria is Australia’s premier gold heritage region, offering visitors the chance to explore and experience spectacular historic cities and towns.
It is also a region where you can experience great Australian produce and visit some award-winning wine regions. The two major towns in the Goldfields region include Ballarat and Bendigo.
